4 drug peddlers arrested in Baramulla: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Nov 06 (KNO): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said to have arrested four drug peddlers in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from their possession. A Police party of Police Station Kreeri headed by SHO Police Station Kreeri at a checkpoint established at Vizer crossing, intercepted a bike (two-wheeler) bearing registration number JK16-1407 ridden by 02 persons, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). They have been identified as Tanveer Ahmad Dar son of Khazir Mohd Dar and Musaib Ahmad Dar son of Manzoor Ahmad both residents of Hadipora Baramulla. During the search, 1.47Kgs of contraband dried cannabis and cash amount of Rs 1K was recovered from their possession. Both the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Bike used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police said. Similarly, a police party of Police Station Kreeri headed by SHO Police Station Kreeri at a checkpoint established at Check Tapper, intercepted a person identified as Abdul Rashid Khan son of Mohd Khan resident of Kreeri. During search, 3Kgs of contraband poppy straw like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Baramulla where he remains in custody, police added. Moreover, a police party of Police Post Mirgund headed by Incharge Police Post Mirgund at a checkpoint established at Chenabal near Jheel, intercepted a person identified as Abid Hussain Sofi son of Ghulam Hussain resident of Yakhmanpora Pattan. During the search, 1.88 Kgs of contraband Charas like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Baramulla where he remains in custody, the statement reads. Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respectively Police Stations and investigation has been initiated. “We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said—(KNO)
